FIN-GER

Our hearts are heavy as we learned of your passing today, Friday 5 December 2025. The world has lost one of its most daring and poetic architectural voices. In a poignant coincidence, Oscar Niemeyer also left us on this very date (5.12.2012).

Back in 2018, FIN-GER travelled to America to honour you with the Master Goldfinger Award at Gehry Partners in Los Angeles in mid-May. It was a moment filled with admiration and gratitude — a chance to recognise the brilliance, generosity, and imagination that shaped your life’s work.

Thank you, Frank, for reshaping skylines, challenging expectations, and reminding us that architecture can move the soul.

Enquiry regarding the development of an architectural policy

Dear Lord Mayor Martin Heilig,

I would like to enquire whether the City of Würzburg is planning to develop a comprehensive architectural policy that addresses the following topics: sustainability, climate, protection and provision of green spaces, biodiversity, transport and mobility, quality, information and transparency, public participation, competitions, education, art in public buildings, experimental architecture, regional identity, social justice and vision.

In addition, I am interested to know in what form the implementation of these topics is envisaged.

TWA Flight Center - John F.Kennedy International Airport - New York

The End of our Tour of Canada and New York City. It is time to fly back home.

In 1962, Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen unveiled the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport—a building that seems to soar before it even leaves the ground. Its sweeping curves and flowing concrete shells were designed to capture the poetry and excitement of air travel in the jet age.

Inside, the terminal felt like a stage set for flight: sunken lounges, glass walls framing the runways, and stairways that guide passengers through a choreography of movement. Every detail—from custom furniture to the iconic split-flap boards—was part of Saarinen’s vision of travel as glamorous, seamless, and inspiring.

AINO - our full-timber building entry to the international architecture competition for Finland’s New Museum of Architecture and Design to Helsinki. Out of 624 proposals, we made it high up to the Upper Middle Category placed at 127 with our cheeky Bird Plan and Egg Bar. The Jury especially appreciated our “City concept and architecture with character”. Congratulations to the winning entry “Kumma” by JKMM Architects. Well done!

Thank you for our little team; Yvonne Beck, Daniel Dahinten, Tobias Hensel and Martin Kuntz, for playing the game of form follows fun! Let’s pop open a bottle of champagne to celebrate this nice 9/11 event!

Heidingsfeld

FINGERARCHITECTURE completed Le Cabanon on time and under budget at the building site in Heidingsfeld, Würzburg. Here is a view of the finished interior with original furniture and artefacts combined with some new elements. This small renovation project, that we call Le Cabanon, is inspired by Le Corbusier's tiny house on the Mediterranean where he spent a lot of happy moments and felt free to create.

The first comments from our senior client were:
"Fantastic! You saved so many of the original things that are very important for recalling my fading memory. Thanks!"

This is the best compliment that an Architect can receive ;)

FINGERARCHITECTURE helping out our neighbours at Bürgerbräu with a small design task. This beautiful, tiny gatehouse from early 19th century is getting a new life as a tiny bistro - a high-quality focacceria - that seats only 10 guests in a very cozy interior. When the weather is good, you can also enjoy your delicious meal outdoors.

This small design project is more to do with documenting what's there already than coming up with something extravagant and flashy. Parts of the the interior and furniture are done in Do-It-Yourself Style - and they look good! Hey, and the main thing is the gastronomical experience that you can enjoy ;)

2/4 Cafe

FIN-GER will support the reopening of the legendary 2/4 Cafe in Würzburg.

This week a bunch of artists, architects, and cultural people got together to check out the premises, and to see what can be done with the place. I've never ever been here before (as far as I can recall...), but a lot of people say that they have very good memories of the unique, cozy, friendly atmosphere of the 2/4.

How about you? Can you enlighten me, what could be done here? Keep it as it was or do something new? A public house?

FINGERARCHITECTURE began a new building site in Heidingsfeld, Würzburg. The de-construction team started clearing the bathroom The aim here is to upgrade the existing 1960s one-room apartment above the garage into a livable tiny house, "Le Cabanon".

Other aims include saving of as much as possible of the original artefacts, materials and surfaces as possible, as the person using the building has dementia. "Le Cabanon" is inspired by Le Corbusier's tiny house on the Mediterranean.
